How to choose
Measure the gap you are filling, not the thing you are storing. The two dimensions that catch people out are the depth beside a basin pedestal and the height under a wall-hung sink — both are usually less than they look.
Open or lined. Wire baskets let a damp flannel dry out and let you see what is in them, which is why they suit daily items. Woven baskets look softer and hide clutter, but a wet towel left in one stays wet, so use them for dry stock: spare rolls, folded linen, packaging.
Go up before you go out. In most bathrooms the floor is already spoken for and the wall above the cistern or beside the door is empty. A wall shelf or a tiered caddy adds three surfaces in the footprint of one.
