A bedroom mirror does two jobs, and most rooms need both. One is dressing — a full reflection, lit from the front, that shows shoes as well as a collar. The other is light: a mirror opposite or adjacent to a window puts daylight back into the darkest half of the room.

How to choose
For dressing, buy height. A mirror needs to be at least 120cm tall, hung with its bottom edge no more than 40cm off the floor, before it shows a whole outfit — anything shorter and you are stepping back to see your own shoes.
For light, buy placement over size. A mirror on the wall adjacent to a window catches daylight and spreads it; a mirror directly opposite a window bounces it straight back out. Two metres of glass in the wrong place does less than 60cm in the right one.
Above a chest or dressing table, keep the mirror narrower than the furniture and leave 15 to 25cm between the two. A mirror wider than the piece it sits over always looks as though it came from a different room.
Check the fixing against the weight. A large framed mirror is heavier than it looks, and the plug supplied in the box is rated for the mirror, not for your wall. Into plasterboard, use proper hollow-wall anchors rated above the stated weight, and hit a stud where you can.
