How to choose
Count hanging metres before buying a wardrobe. A shirt needs about 3cm on a rail and a coat closer to 6cm, so a 90cm rail holds roughly 25 shirts or half that in outerwear. If most of what you own folds, a wide chest is better value than a second wardrobe.
Check the internal height, not the external. A single-rail wardrobe under about 160cm internal will not take a long dress or a full-length coat without it dragging, however tall the case looks from outside.
For an open wardrobe, remember everything in it is on display and gathers dust. They work beautifully in a tidy room and badly in a busy one — if in doubt, a doored unit hides more than it costs.
Fix tall units to the wall. Any chest or wardrobe over about 120cm tall is a tipping risk when a drawer is open, particularly with children in the house. Several pieces here ship with an anti-tip strap; use it, and use a fixing rated for your wall type rather than the plug in the box.

- Wardrobe or chest of drawers?
- Count what you own. Hanging takes about 3cm of rail per shirt and 6cm per coat; if most of your clothing folds, a wide chest stores far more per pound and per centimetre of floor.
- Will a long coat fit?
- Only if the internal hanging height is over about 160cm. Check the internal figure rather than the case height — a wardrobe with a shelf above the rail loses more space than it appears to.
- Do I need to fix a chest of drawers to the wall?
- Anything over about 120cm tall, yes — an open drawer moves the centre of gravity forward and that is how they tip. Use a wall fixing suited to your wall type, not necessarily the plug supplied.
- Are open wardrobes practical?
- In a tidy bedroom, yes, and they make a small room feel larger than a closed case does. Everything on them is visible and collects dust, so in a busy household a doored unit is the calmer choice.
